E MAIL MARKETING SOFTWARE

5 Crucial Email Marketing Tips
Yesterday, I wrote about building an email marketing list and how important it is to make sure you are creating a database of people who want to receive your updates and are most likely to act. It can take time to develop this kind of list and get the responses you want, but there are some email marketing tips you can apply immediately, whether you have a list of 50 or 5,000.
Focus on One Message

If you’re sending non-newsletter email blasts, stick to one primary message for each email sent out. The more information you pack into an email, the higher the chance the recipient’s eyes will glaze over and they’ll reach for delete. Keep it to one focus point and put it right in the subject and first lines of the message to make it easier for those just skimming to absorb your message.

Email newsletters are expected to provide bits and pieces of several messages, so this tip doesn’t really apply to newsletters. But you should still keep your newsletter blurbs short and to the point, making the information easy to grasp.
Customize Your Message

Use the recipient’s name in your message whenever possible. Something as simple as customizing the email in this way can make the recipient more likely to read through and act on your message.
Include a Call to Action

Each email you send should spell out exactly what you want the recipient to do. Make links obvious and call attention to any special directions you are providing. And it’s okay to be repetitive when it comes to the call to action – include it toward the top of the message and mention it again at the end.
Use a Template

Instead of sending out a generic email, take time to customize your template to reflect the colors, fonts and other branding elements of your business. Using the same email template for your messages will help the recipient recognize your company and generate feelings of trust.

You’ll also want to provide a plain text version that contains the same message but is stripped of all special formatting for recipients using email clients that cannot view messages in HTML. And don’t forget to test out your final template in multiple email clients to make sure it looks how you want it to across the board.
Watch Your Stats

Most email marketing services provide campaign statistics so you can monitor the number of opens, clicks, bounces and unsubscribes. As you get started with email marketing, try a few different formats and link placements and then compare the stats to gauge your success.

And don’t be so quick to unsubscribe bounced addresses. An email can bounce for any number of reasons, and it’s best to wait to see if the address bounces more than once before scrubbing it from your list.

What email marketing tips have you learned from your experience that you would add to this list?

SHARE POINT PORTAL 2007

Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS), Windows SharePoint Services (WSS). MOSS builds on WSS by adding both core features as well as end user web parts. Its main strengths are that it enables an organization’s information to be organized and aggregated in one central, web-based application and it provides a taxonomy for corporate data. MOSS integrates closely with applications in the Microsoft Office suite and adds various features such as hierarchical organization of content areas, enhanced navigation, Single Sign On, personalization features, indexed search, the Business Data Catalog, in-browser rendering and, in certain cases, editing of Microsoft Office documents. It can also be used to create specialized document-specific libraries, such as Microsoft PowerPoint slide libraries, which can be used to share not only specific slides from a presentation but also their design as well.[1] The latest version, MOSS 2007, improves over its predecessor, SPS 2003, in integrating with Microsoft Office applications, enterprise content management (with the integration of Microsoft Content Management Server into MOSS), Enterprise Search, web content management, more specialized document management, records management, Web 2.0 collaboration functionality like blogs and wikis, delivery of information stored in SharePoint via RSS, and the ability to take content and lists offline with Outlook 2007 and Microsoft Access. A MOSS application can abstract multiple WSS sites under the covers.

WINAMP MEDIA PLAYER

WinAMP (Windows Audio MPEG Player) is a program from Nullsoft that allows PC users to play audio files, particularly music, in many (but not all) popular digital audio formats, including MS-Audio, wav, and MP3. With WinAMP, it is possible to listen to SHOUTcast streaming radio broadcasts. The program allows the user to convert audio from analog tape recorders, phonographs, and other media to MP3 digital format, and it allows the user to burn MP3 files onto CDs. WinAMP can be configured to periodically scan folders on a computer hard drive for new media.

WinAMP includes various skins (graphical user interface designs) from which to choose. Users can design their own skins and publish them at the WinAMP Web site. A Macintosh version of the program, called MacAMP, is available.

VIRTUAL SERVER

virtual server World-Wide Web
A configuration of a World-Wide Web server that appears to clients as an independent server but which is actually running on a computer that is shared by any number of other virtual servers. Each virtual server can be configured as an independent website, with its own hostname, content, and security settings.
DNS maps the hostnames of all virtual servers on one physical server to its IP address. The web server software then uses the "Host" header in the HTTP request to determine which virtual server the request was for, and then processes the request using that virtual server's configuration.
Virtual servers allow Internet Service Providers to share one computer between multiple websites while allowing the owner of each website to use and administer the server as though they had complete control.

SKYPE SOFTWARE

Skype

An Internet telephone and videophone service from Skype Limited, Luxembourg (www.skype.com). Being software based, calls from Skype subscribers originate from their computers, and all computer-to-computer calls between subscribers are free, including video. Access to regular telephones is also available. With "SkypeOut," users dial a regular telephone for a low per-minute charge. "SkypeIn" lets people worldwide call a Skype subscriber from a regular telephone by dialing a local Skype phone number. See softphone.

Explosive Growth
Introduced in July 2004, within a year, more than a hundred million people downloaded the software. In the fall of 2005, Skype claimed 40 million active users and was acquired by eBay for $2.6 billion. By late 2008, an average of 10 million users were using Skype simultaneously.

Supernodes
Rather than using standard voice over IP (VoIP) protocols such as SIP and H.323, Skype uses proprietary protocols that incorporate a peer-to-peer architecture. If Skype cannot make a direct connection from one user to the other, it may elicit one of its users who has the Skype application loaded to become a "supernode" and relay the call. Only a fraction of the millions of Skype users become supernodes at any given time. See supernode.

Portable Skype Phones
Similar to a cordless phone, a Skype telephone is portable and frees subscribers from being tethered to their PCs. It transmits wireless to a base station that plugs into the PC via USB or into a free port on a network router. In addition, there are adapters that let existing desk and portable phones make regular phone calls and Skype calls. The user's phone plugs into the adapter, which plugs into both the PC and the telephone jack on the wall.
